ps. must admit I’m a bit of a newbie when it comes to these underground vids… I used to be a DJ in Los Angeles and for years it was always debate about DJs mixing music (actually creating new music through the process of mixing song/sounds). Making vids in this way seems similar. What’s the latest stance on copyright… Do you have to get ABC’s permission to use video footage? Do you have to get artist permission (like say “IVY”) to use their audio?

I personally feel that anyone that mixes work together and creates something that is novel and different shouldn’t have to PAY to share it with other people. But, that’s just me…
My guess is that ABC or RIAA may have a different take (cause they are always trying to figure another angle to make a buck).
Dunno. just thinking out loud I guess…
As long as the Vids are quality like ZeroMuch…
Long May the Underground Vids Live!!!

  • Thanks for such kind words! I think for all vidders this is a way to show just how much we love our fandom(s). We certainly make no money from fanvids (though I’ve seen some that could). I’ve never really asked for permission, but I’m sure it’s obvious to anyone visiting my site that it’s all amateur and done in good faith. It would be a sad day in many realms if companies started shutting down fanvid sites.

I think in some cases a vid can actually enhance interest in a movie or show, and I think studios might be grateful for that.
