WVU Football has changed a lot since I was a Mountaineer in the 90s. Then again, maybe it hasn’t. The schedule changes, the stadium gets larger, but I guess the games are pretty much still the same. Nonetheless, it’s different when you are a student. The level of excitement is different, the sense of ownership is more powerful, and the routines are definitely not ones you carry with you forever.
I’ll never really understand the zealous fan who did not attend the college but cheers their heart out each Saturday. It’s great, but it’s not something I will ever truly understand. To support the team, I’ve sat in the hottest sun, and certainly the coldest snow I’ve ever seen (Hello, Miami game) and I’ve watched in the comfort of my pajamas at home. I’ve watched as we’ve won and lost, and through it all, I’m still a Mountaineer
